About the museum
The MUHBO began in the 1980s, when a group of students started collecting objects for an ethnological museum. The collection grew through donations and finds from the excavations at les Forques (1981–1982), and was first housed in the former Civil Guard barracks. In the 1990s it moved to the Casa de la Vila. In 2000 the Generalitat Valenciana recognised it as a permanent museum collection. The museum reopened to the public in 2017, and in March 2020 it received official recognition as the Museu d'Història de Borriol.
The ground floor houses the reception and the tourist office, two former prison cells, an archaeology room (from prehistory to the Iberian period) and a Roman room with the Borriol milestone (miliario), dating from the 3rd century and dedicated to Emperor Decius. The first floor covers the history from the Andalusi period (8th century) to the 19th century, with glazed “socarrada” pottery bearing Arabic inscriptions, Baroque and 19th-century tableware and traditional toys. The second floor was a nursery school until the mid-20th century.
