About the museum

The Museo de la Fiesta is located on Calle de las Monjas, in the historic centre of Caravaca de la Cruz, and is dedicated to the Fiestas of the Santísima y Vera Cruz, which are held from 1 to 5 May. The route begins with an audiovisual presentation and continues through the rooms, where the various elements of the celebration are displayed.

The museum occupies the Palacio del Marqués de San Mamés, also known as the Casa del Señor de Uribe. The earliest known reference to the building dates back to the 16th century, when it belonged to Luis de Mora; in the 17th century it passed to the Uribe family. The building has around 2,000 m² of built floor area across four floors, on a plot of 2,100 m².

The collection brings together costumes of the Christian and Moorish factions (bandos), adornments used in the festivities and, above all, the mantles and harnesses embroidered in gold and silk with which the Caballos del Vino are dressed on the morning of 2 May.
