About the museum
The Museo del Grabado Español Contemporáneo opened on 28 November 1992, following an initial donation of 1,350 graphic works by contemporary Spanish artists made by José Luis Morales y Marín. To house it, Marbella Town Council fitted out the former Hospital Bazán, a representative example of the city's 16th-century Renaissance civil architecture, located in the old town and declared a Monument of Cultural Interest.
Today the collection exceeds 4,000 pieces and covers techniques such as etching, lithography, screen printing, woodcut and digital printing, as well as a collection of artists' books. The centre functions as a space for research and dissemination of contemporary Spanish printmaking, and each year it hosts the Premios Nacionales de Grabado (National Printmaking Awards). Artists represented include Picasso, Miró, Tàpies and Chillida.
