About the museum
The Museo del Mar y de la Sal opened on 4 February 1995 and is Torrevieja’s main ethnological museum. It helps explain the origin and development of the town, which from the outset was linked to the sea and salt production. According to the town council, it operates in its current premises on a provisional basis.
Its rooms display objects related to salt production, small-scale fishing, coastal navigation and shipbuilding, as well as archaeological finds, historical photographs, ship models and examples of salt-workers’ craft, such as the traditional salt boats, a tradition unique in the world.
