About the museum
The Museo del Turrón de Xixona (Jijona) belongs to the company that owns the El Lobo y 1880 nougat factory and is located in the Ciudad del Turrón industrial estate. The project began in the 1960s to gather making tools that were becoming obsolete; over time it was expanded with historical and technological context.
The route starts in the 16th century and covers the manufacturing processes, the faces and vanished buildings that older people remember, the moment when the makers decided to professionalise their trade, and attempts to expand to America and North Africa. The museum spreads over three floors: the upper floor shows the raw materials (sugar, honey, almonds and egg), the middle floor the production processes, and the lower floor marketing, with examples of advertising and packaging.
The visit ends at the Casa 1880 shop, where a tasting is offered. From mid-June to November, on weekday mornings from Monday to Friday, it also includes a guided tour of the factory's walkways.
