About the museum
MEGA is the beer culture museum of Estrella Galicia. The company created it in its own brewery in A Coruña, still in operation, and it opened in 2019. It is presented as the only museum of its kind in Spain. It was built around the old brew house, which operated from 1972 to 2012, and its route is spread over several floors.
The visit follows the brewing process across eight sections. It begins with a journey from prehistoric times through technical innovations in beer and continues with the raw materials (water, hops, cereals and yeast), with items to smell and touch, and the history of the Rivera family. It then shows the four stages of brewing in the old heart of the factory, and the bottling, with views of the plant in operation.
Other sections trace the brand's evolution since 1906, with special editions and a large collection of labels, its advertising history and its sports and music sponsorship. The route ends in the tasting room, where visitors learn to pour a caña (draught beer) and take part in pairings and tastings, and in the shop, with collectors' items and a corner for brewing beer at home. The shop can be visited without a ticket. The museum belongs to Hijos de Rivera, S.A.U.
