About the museum

The museum is in a house in Os Esquíos, a hamlet in the municipality of Taramundi that for centuries was home to families of blacksmiths, about two and a half kilometres from the village. It brings together more than a thousand original objects from rural life in the comarca, many of them made in the municipality itself and now at risk of disappearing.

The main room shows several collections: typewriters, cigarette-rolling machines, radios, sewing machines, bottles and other objects. The rooms of a country house are also recreated, with the lareira (the old kitchen hearth), the bedroom and the wash-house. In the cabanón (barn) are kept farming implements and tools of various trades (carpentry, basketry, clog-making, blacksmithing), along with the guincho (a hoist used since the 1940s to bring in the harvest on sloping land) and a 19th-century cabazo (granary) notable for its carved gallery.

The exhibition, of about 300 square metres, is visited with a guide. Next to it operates a forge where the M. Lombardía knives and blades are still made.
