About the museum
The Mostra do Traxe Juanjo Linares was officially inaugurated on 16 January 2010 and opened to the public on 27 March of that year. It was created from a collection of more than a thousand costumes that the choreographer Juanjo Linares donated to the foundation bearing his name, which handed them over to the Concello de Ordes to be displayed in a municipal building restored for this purpose.
The building has three floors, with an assembly hall, a library, a reading room, a store, an office and two exhibition rooms. About 260 pieces are displayed and the rest is kept in the store. The collection consists mainly of traditional costumes from all over the world, with a predominance of those from the various Spanish autonomous communities.
There are also costumes that belonged to figures from dance and entertainment, such as Kety Clavijo, Rocío Jurado, Antonio Gades, Antonia Mercé “La Argentina”, Merche Esmeralda and Luis del Río, as well as to other well-known personalities, such as Anita Delgado and “maharaní de Kapurtala” (Maharani of Kapurthala). There are also costumes of brotherhoods (cofradías), ceremonies and professions.
Besides the costumes, a good part of a collection of crosses is on display, of which about four hundred are shown; the remaining seven hundred or so are being cleaned. A collection of castanets is being catalogued. The Concello de Ordes covers all operating costs.
