About the museum
The flour mill of Agullent operated for more than four hundred years, in successive buildings, and ground cereal until the mid-20th century. It has been documented since the 15th century, was transformed many times and remained in use until the 1980s, when it was mainly grinding grain for animal feed. For centuries it was an economic centre for the village and the surrounding farmhouses, where grain was turned into flour and then into bread.
The museum preserves part of the original machinery, first driven by water and later with electric assistance, and a small selection of objects of everyday life from the last family who lived in the mill: oil lamps, kitchen utensils and the door key. Works in the 1990s affected the cacau area and part of the machinery, so the water-powered system can no longer be seen in full.
The route through the mill passes the grain-cleaning area, the drying room, the hopper, the volandera and sotana millstones and the torn, the large sieve that graded the flour and is the best-preserved piece. To get there, you can follow the irrigation channel (acequia) that rises at the Font Jordana, next to old streets and wash-houses.
