About the museum
The Museu Fester opened at the end of 2001 and brings together emblematic pieces of Ontinyent's Moros y Cristianos festival. The route through its rooms helps visitors understand the festival and its history over more than 150 years, through photographs, costumes, models, posters, painting and sculpture.
It is located in the premises of the Societat de Festers del Santíssim Crist de l'Agonia, on the Plaza de Baix, and is spread over three floors, all of which are accessible to people with reduced mobility. There are areas devoted to the costumes of the different comparsas (festival groups), to music with original scores, and to the cult of the Most Holy Christ of the Agony (Santísimo Cristo de la Agonía), in whose honour the festivals are held. Another section displays the Embajadas (embassy speeches) that Joaquín José Cervino wrote in 1860 for the parlamento (parliament) on the Plaza Mayor.
The special costumes of the main officers, captains, ambassadors and standard-bearers are also displayed, and various audiovisuals explain the history and present of a festival of National Tourist Interest.
