About the museum

The interpretation centre is the outcome of decades of work by the priest Carlos Méndez Vázquez, who sought out and gathered pieces from rubble heaps, farmhouses and antique dealers in order to preserve the memory of A Ulloa. In the 1990s some privately owned rooms opened in Monterroso to display his collection, which, after more than six years of talks between the municipal government and the parish priest, became municipal heritage.

The exhibition has two parts: the history of A Ulloa, from the first prehistoric settlements to the present day, with archaeological remains, artistic works and documentation; and the history of the Monterroso fair, an example of the Galician fair (feira), with its characters, memories and traditions.

The route is organised into rooms devoted to the Galician fair, the history of the fair, the characters, the memories and traditions, and Don Carlos himself, with his collection of prehistory and history.
