About the museum
The museum was founded in 1972 by the researcher and teacher Olimpio Liste, who together with his wife, Josefina Fernández, had been assembling a large collection of objects of Galician traditional culture since the 1960s. It is considered the first ethnographic museum in Galicia.
It is in the former rectory opposite the Oseira monastery. After a period of closure, it reopened in April 2022 thanks to an agreement between the Diputación de Ourense, the Concello of San Cristovo de Cea and the owner of the collection. Since then it has been run by the Concello itself.
The rooms document rural life and popular ingenuity: tools of old trades, objects of traditional medicine and a collection of musical instruments that offer an anthropological view of Galician identity.
