About the museum
The Vila-rodona museum was created and opened to the public in 1974, when it had only one archaeology room. In 1975 the association “Els amics del Museu” was founded to support the institution and, with the help of local residents, new spaces were opened: rooms for geology and glass, farm tools, a kitchen and a costume room. In the 1990s improvements and a change of location were carried out, and in 1999 the new museum opened on its current site.
The collection exceeds 2,000 pieces, donated by local residents: tools from farms and rural households, archaeological remains, fossils from the comarca, glassware and costumes. Because of limited space, the permanent exhibition shows only a small part, the most representative and best-quality items.
The route, which is educational in character, uses explanatory panels, dioramas, models and photographs. It includes a geology room with local fossils, a history room that covers the Iberians, the Romans, the Middle Ages (with a model of the walled village) and the agricultural early modern period, and a room that recreates the house, the school, the café and the square of a hundred years ago, with restored furniture, photographs and an audiovisual.
