About the museum
Hultets hembygdsgård (Hultet Homestead Museum) is located in the mill village of Öjebro in Mjölby Municipality. The Hultet croft, also called Märtastugan (Märta's Cottage), was the home of Märta Nilsson, who died on 1 April 1974 without heirs. Her estate passed to the Allmänna arvsfonden (Swedish Public Inheritance Fund), and there was a risk that the house and its furnishings would be scattered.
The future of Hultet was an important reason why Öjebroortens hembygdsförening (Öjebro village local heritage society) was formed on 28 June 1974. The society took over the building from Mjölby Municipality in 1976, and the house was restored over the following years: the roof was repaired, the house was painted red in 1978, and the interior was painted and papered. The wing building, which is used as a club room, has also been restored.
Today Hultet functions as the society's main meeting place. The preserved furnishings give the house the character of an older residence and show parts of the everyday life and history of the area. The society also looks after the mill village's other municipally owned buildings, among them Elkvarnen (the electric mill), Sågen (the sawmill), Nötaren, the fire station (Brandstationen) and Gropestallet.
