About the museum
Sya hembygdsgård lies about 2 kilometers from the village of Sya in Mjölby Municipality. The farm was originally the property Hydinge mellangård, also called Melltorp. When Melltorp was sold, the village’s residents gathered for a meeting in 1947, and the farm was bought to become a local heritage farm. Sya Local Heritage Association was formed in 1946 and inaugurated the farm on 21 September 1947.
There are several buildings on the farm. Kristoffersboden originally stood at Björklund and was donated to the local heritage association in 1966 by Nils and Ella Carlsson, after which it was moved to the farm. In the storehouse there is an older brewhouse (brygghus).
In the farm’s museum, collections added by members and others over the years are shown. Because farming always dominated in the parish, with some crafts and small industry, the collections are marked by the everyday life of the local community. The local village association runs a summer café on the farm, and the area has a play area, benches and picnic tables.
