About the museum

Västra Hargs hembygdsförening was formed in 1980. For the first five years activities took place in members' homes and in rented premises. Since 1985 the former school in Boo has been used as the local heritage farm. Thanks to the efforts of provost (prost) Carl Erik Svenstedt, the society was able to buy the building for a symbolic sum from the then Linköping church parish association (Linköpings kyrkliga samfällighet).

On the site there is also Tyrsbo, a dilapidated crofter's cottage from 1830 that previously stood at Målaskogen. It was moved to the local heritage farm in 1999 and restored very extensively, with the aim of recreating the cottage's original appearance as far as possible. Tyrsbo is a gift from the Claes Danckwardt-Lillieström family.

The society organises several activities during the year, including the Walpurgis Night celebration with Västra Hargs IF, the local heritage day in early June, an autumn party and a Christmas party. The area has a rich crofter heritage, and the society is happy to tell more about the many old crofts in the district.
