About the museum
Arboga Museum is run by the local heritage society Hembygdsföreningen Arboga Minne and is located in the centre of Arboga, in the Örström house at Nygatan 37. The house was built in 1846 by the wholesale merchant Anders Örström and is shown as a recreated wholesale merchant's home. The building also houses the tidningslägg, a museum shop and premises for temporary exhibitions, and the collections include silver and pewter by famous Arboga masters.
The museum also includes Arboga Bryggerimuseum (Arboga Brewery Museum), which is Sweden's only surviving wooden brewery. It is housed in the old grain store of the Arboga Brewery and shows tools that were once used in beer production, a photo exhibition and an extensive brewery library.
The museum is rebuilding the Gamla museet (Old Museum). The first stage led in 2013 to the reopening of the medieval Stensalen (Stone Hall), which houses a smaller permanent exhibition on Arboga's history from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. In 2026 the Stensalen is closed for renovation work.
