About the museum
Jädersbruk lies by the Arbogaån river, and the forging activity on the site was started by Gustav Vasa in 1551. The area is today a museum with exhibitions both indoors and outdoors, with machine history in the form of large and small engines, pictures and objects forged at the works, as well as agricultural history and tools. There is also a nature trail along the river and an ancient monument with slag from the old smithies. Visitors can see how wind and water power can be used, and they meet the old smith Ambrosius Frisk as they approach the smithy.
The old power station was built in 1914, when the electrification of Sweden was at its most intense. As early as 1943 a higher dam and a new, more efficient power station were needed, which meant the end of the old one. The old station today houses a museum, which came about in 2009 through a project run by the association Jädersbruksvänner (Friends of Jädersbruk), which works to preserve the memory of Jädersbruk and its history.
At Jädersholme there are ten audio stories that describe the history of the area, the buildings and the places.
