About the museum
The Arboga robotmuseum is run by the non-profit Robothistoriska Föreningen i Arboga (Arboga Robot History Association), whose members often have backgrounds in Försvarsmakten (the Swedish Armed Forces), Försvarets materielverk (the Defence Materiel Administration) or the defence industry. The museum reflects Swedish robot development: it shows most of the Swedish Armed Forces’ robot systems from the late 1940s to some way into the 21st century, including some experimental robots.
In addition to the robots, the museum shows engines from all branches of the armed forces that were maintained in Arboga, command-and-control systems, countermeasures and simulators. The museum is therefore also an industrial history of the town, where Arboga has been the centre of Swedish robot development since the 1940s. A photo exhibition tells how the Centrala flygverkstaden i Arboga (the Central Aircraft Workshop in Arboga) came about.
The museum is part of the network Statens museer för maritim-, transport- och försvarshistoria (the state museums for maritime, transport and defence history), which consists of state and state-supported museums, and it also has flight simulators that the public can try.
