About the museum
The Köping–Uttersberg Railway was built to make transport from the works in Hedströmsdalen and neighbouring places down to Köping harbour more efficient. The line was inaugurated in 1866 and built with the unusual track gauge of 1093 millimetres. Riddarhytte bruk (ironworks) built the Uttersberg–Riddarhyttans Järnväg itself, completed in 1879, and it was bought in 1911 by the Köping–Uttersberg Railway, after which the two lines together became the Köping–Uttersberg–Riddarhyttans Järnväg (KURJ). The railway was used for works freight for just over a century, until closure.
Köping–Uttersbergs Järnvägs museiförening (KUJmf) is a non-profit association formed in 1975, based in Köping. The association wants to preserve and bring to life the material and intangible memories of KURJ, to preserve and restore vehicles and objects in its collections, and to work for a railway museum and a museum railway in Köping.
The association has premises and an exhibition in the railway’s old station building. Next to it is the engine shed, which on the outside largely resembles the first engine shed in Köping. There the vehicles are stored: the only surviving steam locomotive from the line, Patric Reuterswärd, two passenger coaches, the locomotive Z4tu 316, an inspection trolley and some bicycle trolleys (cykeldressiner).
