About the museum
The Artillery Museum is located on the old training ground of the Wendes artilleriregemente (Wendes Artillery Regiment, A 3) in Norra Åsum, south of Kristianstad. The support association Wendes Militärhistoriska Förening (Wendes Military History Association) was formed in 1993, when the regiment moved to Hässleholm without any space being available for its collections. The association took over older buildings on the training ground and began to collect the artillery system in its entirety, from the late 18th century to the present day.
The collection eventually came to be regarded as nationally important, and following a government decision the Artillery Museum became a reality on 1 January 2008. The museum is the arm-of-service museum (truppslagsmuseum) for the Swedish artillery and forms part of Sweden's military historical heritage. It is run by a volunteer workforce with the support of the association.
The collections are displayed in a former farm, Bostället, in large stone outbuildings and in a couple of former mobilisation stores. There are, among other things, cannons and howitzers, ammunition, signal and command equipment, and some fifty wheeled and tracked vehicles and motorcycles that are in working order. The aim is to build up the largest and most complete collection of artillery and indirect fire in the Nordic countries in one place.
