About the museum
Kristianstads järnvägsmuseum (Kristianstad Railway Museum) opened on 19 May 1979 and is run by Regionmuseet Skåne (Skåne Regional Museum). The museum is on the grounds around the closed Kristianstad Södra station, where an old museum hall and the railyard are used to show railway history from north-eastern Skåne.
The activities are based on a long-standing cooperation between Regionmuseet Skåne and Museiföreningen Östra Skånes Järnvägar (Museum Association for the Railways of Eastern Skåne). The regional museum owns the steam locomotives and some of the carriages, while the association owns, among other things, rail buses, locomotives and an electric locomotive. Members of the association carry out the practical operation and run trains on the narrow-gauge track outside the museum.
Indoors there are locomotives, carriages, signs, a ticket kiosk and train compartments from earlier times, as well as an exhibition on Landins cykelverkstad (Landin's bicycle workshop). In the railyard there are station buildings, various goods wagons, a turntable and a coal crane, and in the southern part there is narrow-gauge equipment that shows how the railway looked in Blekinge. On certain days a small steam locomotive runs with the youngest visitors.
