About the museum

The forest railway in Böda kronopark was built by Domänverket (the Swedish State Forestry Board) in 1908–1909 to transport timber to a steam sawmill in Nabbelund. The total track system was 27–28 km long, with a gauge of 600 mm. At first horses provided the traction; in 1910 the steam locomotive Mormor was bought, and in 1928 Farmor. When motoring broke through after the Second World War, the railway was closed in 1959 and the track lifted.

The association Böda Skogsjärnväg was formed on 21 July 1974 to build up and operate a section of the closed line, as well as to preserve and show locomotives and carriages from the forest-railway era of 1908–1959. The landowner, Domänverket, made the embankment between Fagerrör and Trollskogen available to the association, and in 1978 a small part could be operated. From 1991 the line was extended northwards, and the section to Trollskogen was inaugurated on 21 July 1994.

Today the trains run about 4.5 km on the narrow gauge between Fagerrör bathing place and Trollskogen, sometimes with the steam locomotive Mormor or Karolina and otherwise with diesel locomotives. Operations are run on a voluntary basis, and all income goes to the operation and maintenance of locomotives, carriages, track and buildings. The association also preserves objects and archives from Böda’s forest-railway era.
