About the museum

The Trollskogen nature reserve lies on Öland’s north-easternmost point and is part of Ekopark Böda. It is one of Öland’s most visited natural areas and has about 30 large oaks, among them Trolleken, Öland’s oldest oak, over 900 years old, as well as pines at least 300 years old and shaped by the wind. Along the shore lie the remains of the flat-bottomed schooner (slätskonare) Swiks, which ran aground on 21 December 1926 and, according to the reserve’s website, is the only known site in the world with a schooner wreck on land.

Naturum Trollskogen is run by Länsstyrelsen (County Administrative Board) and focuses on the whole family. The exhibition, produced by Taiga Nature & Photo, follows the mascot Morris through the reserve’s environments: the shore meadow, Grankullaviken, the dragonflies, the oaks, the pines and the Baltic Sea.

The reserve has several hiking trails: Knysselnackestigen (1 km), Kolkyrkestigen (1.3 km), Murgrönestigen (3.3 km) and Trollskogsstigen (4.5 km), which run around the whole point.
