About the museum
At Gysinge bruk (ironworks village), the Stiftelsen Svensk Brandnostalgi foundation has built a large museum building. About thirty fire engines and ambulances are displayed on the ground floor, which covers around 1,000 square metres. Rooms and activity settings from the life of firefighters and other museum activities are planned for the upper floor. The museum is run by the Museiföreningen Brandbilsmuseet i Gysinge museum association.
The vehicles reflect developments from the 1930s to the 1990s, and several of the fire engines and ambulances often take part in the annual veteran car rallies of the Brandhistoriska Sällskapet (Fire History Society). The museum also shows hand- and steam-powered pumps and extensive other equipment. There are special exhibitions on the development of civil defence and on forest fires, which sets the museum apart from other fire museums.
The museum is especially lively because newer fire engines are available through the volunteer fire brigade that the foundation has started. Gysinge fire brigade, among others, sent a tanker to the great forest fire in Hälsingland in 2018. The association’s members add to and develop the exhibitions.
