About the museum
Naturum Färnebofjärden is at Gysinge bruk (Gysinge ironworks) on the shore of the Dalälven, next to Färnebofjärden National Park. The building is an old stable block from 1814 which today houses the national park's visitor centre. The national park lies by the Nedre Dalälven (Lower Dalälven River) and extends across four counties, and it is managed by the County Administrative Board of Gävleborg.
In the exhibition visitors learn about the park's plants, animals and habitats. You can listen to woodpeckers and visit Herr Bäver (Mr Beaver) in his hut. The building also has a library with books and newspapers, a film about the national park, and a view of the rapids. In the floor pool 14 small brown trout live, which are fed every day at 13:00 on days when naturum is open.
Naturum arranges activities throughout the year, such as owl evenings, bird-watching mornings, photography courses and school-holiday activities for both children and adults. Next to the building an accessible bridge leads out over the rapids, where visitors can stand in the middle of the roaring water. School classes can book a visit to naturum, and for older pupils tours in the national park are arranged when possible.
