About the museum
Brandkårsmuseet i Simonstorp (the Fire Brigade Museum in Simonstorp) lies north of Norrköping and describes itself as Sweden's largest fire and rescue museum. It is run by an association and covers about 250 years of history of how fire brigades and ambulance services, today the rescue service, have developed. Police equipment is also included.
The museum displays tools, clothing and equipment from different periods in period settings. The development runs from hand-operated and horse-drawn pumps and ambulances to today's motor vehicles. The development of fire extinguishers is shown from buckets and hand pumps to throwing extinguishers and modern extinguishers.
During a visit you can see some fifteen fire vehicles, including Norrköping fire brigade's first fire engine, a Dürkopp converted from a passenger car, and a horse-drawn ambulance donated to Norrköping fire brigade in 1902. The vehicles also include a turntable ladder from 1915, a Tidaholmare from 1924, a Chevrolet ambulance from 1977 and a Scania P93 from 1992.
