About the museum
Brandmuseet Storgöteborg is run by Museiföreningen Räddningstjänsten Storgöteborg (museum association of the Storgöteborg rescue service), which has been active since 1997. At the end of 1997 an agreement was signed with Räddningstjänsten Storgöteborg, and the aim is to look after and preserve the history of the fire brigade and later of the rescue service. The work is done on a voluntary basis, and the purpose is to show the history to the public and to the staff.
The collection includes older fire engines, the ambulance, the history of the fire stations, fires and incidents, and an extensive archive. Among the vehicles are Gothenburg's first motorised fire engine, a Scania-Vabis from 1914, and a Volvo ladder truck from 1938 that was restored over about twenty years. The association also organises a veteran fire engine rally.
The association's working days are mostly held on Thursdays at its premises on Eckens väg in Partille, with archive, documentation and workshop. Anyone wishing to visit should call in advance.
