About the museum
Jonsereds hembygdsförening (Jonsered Local Heritage Society) was formed in 1981 by enthusiasts in the community, with the aim of telling the history of Jonsered: the industry, the community and the manor (säteriet). The association has premises in Porthuset (the Gate House) at Jonsereds Fabriker, and there is the Museet i Porten (Museum in the Gate House).
The museum is small and shows machines and materials from the factory, as well as objects both from the Gibson family, who owned the factory, and from workers’ homes. The association also has a large archive of photographs and documents about Jonsered’s history. The factories were founded in 1833 and closed in 1979, and the association has also created the open-air museum Jonsereds Industrihistoriska Museum on the factory site.
