About the museum
The country store in Lyckebo in Simlångsdalen opened in the 19th century and for many years was the district's natural meeting place, with a post office and a telephone exchange. The brothers Rudolf and Alvar Persson took over the business from their father in the mid-1920s. When the Second World War broke out, many goods were rationed, and the brothers found it too laborious to handle ration coupons, so they closed the shop abruptly.
The house stood untouched until Breareds kulturhistoriska förening (Breared cultural history association) took over the shop and dwelling in 1984. Today candy in paper cones and local crafts are sold there again, and the association offers guided tours of the well-preserved dwelling. Just behind Lyckebo lies the old small school (småskola), with a preserved schoolroom from the first half of the 20th century, with school posters, slate boards, embroidery frames and class registers; the association took it over in 1987.
Every year in May, Lyckebodagen (Lyckebo Day) is usually celebrated with a flag raising, breakfast, a market and a crafts gala, and on Hembygdens dag (Local Heritage Day) in August, Lyckebo and the small school are opened to visitors.
