About the museum
The Hallandsgården open-air museum was founded in 1925 by Hallands Museiförening (Halland Museum Association) and is today managed by Hallands Konstmuseum (Halland Art Museum). The first building on the site was the skvaltkvarn (water mill) from Ebbared in Veinge parish, built in 1886 and bought in 1917. Hörsåsstugan and Krafsagården together formed the core when the open-air museum opened.
The buildings have been moved here from various parishes in Halland. Hörsåsstugan with a brew house (brygghus) from Getinge parish is the oldest and dates from the early 18th century. Among the other buildings are a Dutch windmill from before 1841, Eldsbergas skolhus (school house) from 1843, a backstuga (small cottage) from 1836, a water saw from 1840–1850 and a flax-processing house (linbasthus). Along the outer wall stands a collection of milestones, and an archaeological park shows rock carvings and cup marks.
There is also a summer café and a popular playground on the site. Every summer National Day and midsummer are celebrated here, and in August the music festival Galgbergsfestivalen is held.
