About the museum
Burs poorhouse was built in 1816 for parish residents who could not support themselves. Here they found a roof over their heads as well as help with food and clothing. The house was used as a poorhouse until 1949 and is still in near-original condition.
The building is made of limestone and rendered with lime mortar, and the roof is covered with shingles laid in the so-called wild pattern (vild läggning). On the plot stands a former storehouse that is today used as a school museum. Both buildings were declared listed buildings on 19 December 1988.
The poorhouse and school museum are located in the church village and are managed by Burs hembygdsförening (local heritage society), which looks after several museums and cultural-historical sites in the parish.
