About the museum

The Clas Ohlson Museum is the company’s own museum and opened in 2008, when Clas Ohlson turned 90. It is in the same building as the company’s first and largest store in Insjön in Dalarna, where the firm was founded in 1918 by Clas Ohlson (1895–1979) and his half-brother Emil Pettersson.

The museum tells the story of the founder, of the company’s development from a bicycle workshop and mail-order firm into one of the larger retail companies in the Nordic region, and of a hundred years of gadget history. The collection holds manuals and catalogs from the 1920s onwards and a large number of products from various decades, including band saws, gramophones, photographic equipment, kayaks and radio receivers.

Visitors can listen to voices about Clas Ohlson, try out a quick-idea workshop where they come up with clever solutions, and pedal an electric bicycle that drives a model train. The building also has a café. Local history of Insjön is part of the exhibition.
