About the museum

Sågmyra hembygdsmuseum is run by Sågmyra Local Heritage Association, which was formed in 1987 under the name Sågmyrabygdens Vänner (Friends of the Sågmyra District). The association was formed after the Tidstrand wool mill closed in 1976 and Skandinaviska Jute left the district in 1980, and one of its first goals was to set up a museum.

The museum was first on the third floor of the factory’s warehouse building and moved in 1996, in connection with the centenary, to the factory itself, in the old Sulzer weaving mill. In 2005 it got new premises in the old Ylleboden at Tidstrandsvägen 3, where it is today.

The exhibition is about Sågmyra’s flourishing period, when the large wool mill had about 1,000 employees. Here there are many preserved woollen blankets, as well as books and magazines about the district. Museum hosts tell the story of the village, and on request during opening hours the film about the wool mill is shown, in which the director Tidstrand is followed into the bedchamber. The association also has a picture archive and manages the older farm environment Svensgården.
