About the museum

The artist couple Margot and Tomas Holst have turned a 19th-century farm in Dala-Järna into an art farm with a museum and a garden. Dala konstmuseum shows parts of the couple's private collections, mainly Swedish 20th-century art, with the hangings changed every year. In 2007 a wooden bird museum was added to the complex, and the museum also contains allmogehästar (traditional Swedish folk horses) and dalahästar (Dala horses), with stories about their history. Many of the farm's decorations and installations were made by the couple themselves.

Permanent exhibitions

• Träfågelmuseet – The world's first museum for wooden birds, with around 400 Swedish wooden birds from the 19th to the 1960s, both lifelike and imaginative.

From Borlänge along the E16 towards Dala-Järna; turn left at the sign “Konstgård” about 500 metres before the junction at Dala-Järna centre.
