About the museum

Lindesnäs bruk (Lindesnäs Ironworks), formerly called Sunnanbäck, was founded in 1793 with a nail smithy and during the 1800s grew into one of the country's largest ironworks. Operations continued until 1895, and the works became one of the foundations for what later developed into Domnarvets järnverk (Domnarvet Ironworks). At its heyday about 500 people lived in Lindesnäs.

The works museum was housed in an old grain storehouse and opened about thirty years ago. After some years it closed when no one took over the operation, but a newly formed association in Lindesnäs took up the idea of a museum again, and today it looks after the collections and a nature trail in the area.

The premises show environments such as workers' homes, forest, a country shop, pharmacy, shoemaker's workshop, forestry office, fishing, technology, school, carpentry workshop and casting patterns. Elsewhere in the area, remains of smithies and foundries from the works still survive.
