About the museum
Dalénmuseet is housed in Stenstorp’s courthouse from 1884 and opened in 1996. The museum tells the story of Gustaf Dalén, the Nobel Prize winner who grew up in the area, and of the company AGA and the inventions that made it world-famous.
The exhibition follows Dalén’s life from his childhood at Skräddaregården via lighthouse technology, including the Dalén system that changed the light of the lighthouses, to the AGA cooker, welding technology and later activities in radio, television and healthcare. There is a re-created childhood setting, Dalén’s office with a wax figure and a replica of the Nobel Prize, an AGA car that was intended to be a people’s car, and prisms that NASA used for the moon landing.
The museum also has a genuine cinema from the 1930s where a film about Dalén is shown, a light and sound show, and a model of the railway town of Stenstorp in the 1890s, added in 2010. The railway was of great importance to Dalén as a young man and later through AGA’s railway signals.
