About the museum
Stenstorp school museum aims to reflect the development of compulsory schooling from the later part of the 19th century to the present day. The museum is in a school building from 1922, where an authentic classroom from the turn of the century has been set up. The activities are supported by Stödföreningen för Stenstorps skolmuseum (the support association for the Stenstorp school museum).
The collections include school benches from the late 19th century onwards, over 300 school wall charts (the oldest from 1890), textbooks from different eras, original drawings from the construction of the school building, a standard plan from the mid-19th century and handicraft items. There are also objects from natural-science teaching, for example a tellurium, a thunder machine and the school’s first ABC computer from the early 1980s.
A guide tells about school days in the past. Classes and adult groups can book an old-fashioned school day in which the teacher follows the school regulations of 1910 and the pupils practise penmanship with a dip pen, arithmetic and local history. The museum also arranges a Christmas market and other events.
