About the museum
Dufweholms Herrgård (Dufweholm Manor) lies by Lake Dufweholm just outside Katrineholm and traces its history back to 1485. Over the centuries the estate has had 22 owners, and the stories about it include family feuds and years of crop failure, as well as great banquets and weddings. In the small summer house by the manor, Albert Engström and Anders Zorn painted illustrations that can still be seen.
Today the manor is run as a hotel, restaurant and spa by the Åström family as part of Svenska Kulturpärlor. Around the estate the family's museums and collections are shown. There is a folk museum (allmogemuseum) with, among other things, a printing works, a hairdresser's salon, a pharmacy, a shoemaker's and a peasant home, a hundred-year-old village shop, and a collection of about 3,000 corkscrews, described as the country's largest.
The Åström family also owns one of Sweden's largest collections of Swedish product advertising, with enamel and tin signs, some of which are shown at the manor. In the converted wine cellar, champagne more than a hundred years old rests in large aquariums. The bottles come from the ship Jönköping, which sank off the Finnish coast in 1916 on its way to Russia, and whose cargo was salvaged after just over 80 years on the seabed.
