About the museum
Katrineholms hembygdsmuseum is run by Katrineholm-Stora Malms hembygdsförening (Katrineholm-Stora Malm local heritage association), which was formed in 1934, and is located at the association's heritage homestead just north of Stora Djulö manor in Katrineholm. The association has had use of the site since 1938, and it contains nine historic buildings with different functions, among them a carriage shed from the 18th century with a tannery and pottery, the Wermbolstugan used as a meeting room, and a summer hostel.
The heart of the complex is Djulö's former stable, which was probably built in 1779 and today houses the association's stable museum. In 2008–2011 a new museum building with an exhibition hall was built next to the entrance towards the theatre square. Here there is a comprehensive collection of folk objects and buildings, such as a saddler's workshop, a village general store, a pottery and a barber's cottage.
The exhibitions cover the Stone Age, cars, sport and the municipality's industrial history. As an eye-catcher towards the street stands an old traction engine (lokomobil), and the Sörmlandsleden (Sörmland Trail) passes through on its stage 27.
