About the museum

The Eda glassworks operated between 1835 and 1953 and around 1900 was one of Sweden's largest glassworks, with some 300 employees. The works mainly made household glass. Eda Glass Museum was started by the Eda Glassworks Association (Eda Glasbruksförening) to preserve and show the history of the works community.

The museum is located in Eda Folkets Park near the border with Norway, in what was once the village's people's house (folkets hus). The exhibition hall shows a selection of the works' production: cut, engraved and painted glass, lustre glass, uranium glass and other pressed glass, the art deco glass of the artist Gerda Strömberg, and glass grave globes (gravkulor). In an adjoining room is Bengt Larsson's large collection, mainly of drinking glasses from around 1700 to the present day, from glassworks in northern Europe.

By the museum stands a small glass furnace with irregular activity, and nearby there are two workers' houses and a music pavilion. The museum also presents the people of the works and the history of glass in the border areas.
