About the museum

F11 Museum at Skavsta Airport outside Nyköping was inaugurated on 15 October 1991, to the day 50 years after the wing's inauguration and eleven years after its closure. F 11 was the country's aerial reconnaissance wing, and the era lasted from 1941 to 1980. At the height of the wing more than 900 people worked here every day, and some 15,000 did their national service at F 11. Almost all modern aerial reconnaissance technology and tactics were developed in Nyköping during those years.

The museum's objects and exhibitions reflect the almost 40-year F 11 era. In the Flyghallen (Flight Hall) stand the reconnaissance aircraft Tunnan, Lansen and Draken, together with the forward fuselage of a Viggen, as well as civil aircraft, engines and much else. The annex in the Gula huset (Yellow House) holds rescue seats, air radars and reconnaissance cameras of all kinds. The country's only surviving mobile intelligence platoon, Undplut S 37, which was the hub of the 37 Viggen reconnaissance system, is also on show, as is an American spy balloon that landed on a frozen lake outside Nyköping. The museum also reflects the civil aviation history of the region.

The museum is run by Nyköpings Flyghistoriska Förening (NFF, the Nyköping Aviation History Association), and all the aircraft and simulators have been prepared by volunteers. Visitors can book flights in four simulators and follow the museum with a guide app with QR codes at the objects.
