About the museum

Arsenalen opened on 17 June 2011 and is open all year round. The museum is run by a private foundation, Stiftelsen Södermanlands militärhistoriska samlingar (the Södermanland Military History Collections Foundation). The vehicles are owned by the Swedish state through Statens försvarshistoriska museer (Swedish National Defence History Museums) and come, among other sources, from Pansarmuseet in Axvall and Militärfordonsmuseum in Malmköping.

The collection comprises about 350 vehicles in total, of which about 75 are shown in the museum. The exhibition follows technical and military development from the early 20th century to the present, with vehicles that can travel both on land and in deep water. Each year the vehicles are changed in a theme exhibition.

In the museum, the exhibition on Södermanlands regemente (Södermanland Regiment) tells the story of the province’s military units from the 1300s, when the Södermanna law obliged farmers and settled men to defend their home district, until the closure of P 10 in 2005. Next to the museum stands a soldier’s croft that was previously inside the regimental grounds, with the exhibition Soldaten och Torpet (The Soldier and the Croft). The museum has a support association, Södermanlands regementes museiförening.
