About the museum
Fridlevstad local history museum was originally one of the buildings of the vicarage, built in 1697, and according to records it was the residence of the assistant priest during the 18th century. At the end of the 19th century the house became the home of the vicarage tenant farmer.
Fridlevstad local heritage society was founded in 1924 by the vicar Gerhard von Wachenfeldt, and in 1925 the society took over the building, which was threatened with demolition. After a renovation the house largely took its present form, with a red facade and white corners. The interior was furnished in a National Romantic spirit as an early 19th-century farmstead from Blekinge, and the museum opened on Midsummer Eve 1925. In the 1960s the collecting was expanded and the museum was refurbished, with exhibition rooms on the upper floor where the textile collection is shown.
The society also uses the church stables, where carriages and farm implements are kept, and a smithy. The collections are being inventoried and digitised in cooperation with Blekinge Museum.
