About the museum
Ekholms fotoateljé (Ekholm’s photo studio) at Norra Smålandsgatan 6 in Kallinge was built in 1928 as the studio of photographer Oscar Ekholm (1900–1982), who worked here until 1980. The studio is one of Sweden’s smallest and oldest daylight studios. It is housed in one of Kallinge’s smallest houses, and the whole photographic process took place in a very small space. A skylight served as the light source instead of lamps or flash.
The interior, the cameras, the painted backdrops and the darkroom equipment remain in their original condition, together with the main building, outbuildings, garden and fittings. The studio represents a century-old era in the history of photography and also tells the story of the women photographers who were Ekholm’s teachers and sources of inspiration. The studio was declared a listed building on 4 November 2015, because it shows how small photo studios in smaller towns looked in the first half of the 20th century.
Ronneby Municipality owns the building. The studio is opened and shown by advance booking with Ronneby Musei- och hembygdsförening (Ronneby Museum and Local Heritage Association).
