About the museum
Gottfrid Skytt's joinery (snickeri), today called Skyttverkstan, is a joiners' workshop in Lövstabruk that looks as it did when it closed in the 1970s. The joiners' workshops in Lövstabruk lay east of the Risforsån river during the 1600s and 1700s, north of Nedre kvarn where Barnens bruk is now, and the Skytt family of joiners worked there for several generations.
From 1927–28 Gottfrid Skytt (1895–1975) leased the workshop. He had trained with a master in Stockholm in 1917–18, passed his journeyman's test (gesällprov) in 1918 and at most had eight employees. A lot of furniture in pine, birch, alder, elm, mahogany and walnut left the workshop. The joinery took private commissions and also built interiors for the baron's buildings at Leufsta and Stora Wäsby, and Carl Malmsten AB was a major customer.
Skytt ended his career as master joiner in the early 1970s. The machines were switched off, the door was locked and everything was left as it was. Today Lövstabruks hembygdsförening (Lövstabruk local heritage society) shows the workshop with hand tools, machines and some of Gottfrid's works.
