About the museum

Klaverens Hus preserves and looks after Swedish keyboard instruments: pianos and grand pianos, reed organs (orgelharmonier) and self-playing variants. The collection was built up at a time when all Swedish piano and organ factories closed down between 1953 and 1987, and many instruments ended up on the rubbish tip. There are also industrial heritage items and national main collections from the factories that once existed.

The collections were moved from Söderhamn and are now in three places: the exhibition and office in Lövstabruk, exhibitions and concerts at Salsta slott, and a store in Strömsnäsbruk. In Lövstabruk the house is the former Folkets hus (People's House), just outside the Norra porten. The collection also includes an archive and a library.

The association arranges concerts, seminars, courses and research. Instruments that can still be played are used for concerts and documentation recordings, and the aim is for more and more of them to be heard again.
