About the museum
The Smedsbostaden at Stora gatan 45 in Lövstabruk shows how a smithing family lived and worked at the works. The last smith's family to live in the house was the Sågström family: Carl and Amalia with eleven children, the eldest born in 1895 and the youngest in 1915. Carl died in 1938, and Amalia moved to Storhuset in 1940; she died in 1952.
Most of the furnishings have been donated, partly by Carl and Amalia's children and grandchildren. The rocking chair in the bedroom was a banns gift that Amalia had received from the head gardener Olof Strindberg. Since 1998 Leufsta Bygderåd (Leufsta village council) has rented the flat from Tierpsbyggen, and the women's group Kvinnfolken, within Lövstabruk local heritage society, looks after the cottage.
The Smedsbostaden is also used for the association's activities, for example music and storytelling cafés and meetings for Kvinnfolken, who also perform a play about women in and around the works around the year 1900.
