About the museum
Wanås Konst is a sculpture park in a beech forest on the Wachtmeister family’s estate in north-eastern Skåne. The site has medieval roots, and Wanås Castle (slottet Wanås) was rebuilt in 1556 in a form that can still largely be recognised today. The castle is still privately owned and is a private residence, and it is not open to visitors.
Art activities on the site began in 1987, and the non-profit foundation Wanås Konst was established in 1995 by Marika Wachtmeister. Over almost forty years a sculpture park has grown up on around 40 hectares of beech forest and in historic settings. The park today has nearly eighty permanent, site-specific works, among them in former cattle sheds and in the forest around the castle.
In addition to the permanent works, temporary exhibitions are shown outdoors and indoors, and the site has a drop-in art workshop, a café and a shop. Wanås Konst receives operating grants from Region Skåne, the Swedish Arts Council (Kulturrådet) and Östra Göinge municipality.
