About the museum

Torsby fordonsmuseum (vehicle museum) is located in Herrgårdsparken in central Torsby and is housed in a converted cowshed (ladugård). The museum shows around 125 vehicles: cars, motorcycles, mopeds, engines and other veteran vehicles. There are also older radio sets, spark plugs, typewriters and other objects that tell of technology and everyday life in the past.

One of the best-known objects is the Frykenbilen, a lorry delivered to the Övre Fryksdal road district. It broke through the ice on Lake Fryken when the trotting track was being ploughed on 27 February 1936, and then lay at a depth of 67 metres for about 50 years, until Nordvärmlands Veterantekniker (Nordvärmland veteran technicians) salvaged and restored it. Chassis, engine and transmission were largely functional, while the cab and body panels have been replaced with older original parts.

The museum also shows what remains of the Lindströmsbilen, the LT car built at Torsby's own car factory. Veteran vehicle meetings are held in the park, and visitors can have a coffee in the museum's refreshment area. The museum is open during the summer.
